Hook Preparation

A. Standard Mustad 94840 hook. In my experience, Tiemco Hooks
cannot be cold bent and should be avoided at all costs. I
recently found that Daiichi 1801 hooks can be cold bent.(R1)

B. Begin by creating a 45° bend in the hook.The hook can be cold
bent by simply pressing down with the thumb while holding the
shank with pliers.

C. While pinching down the barb, open the hook gap so that the point is
no longer pointing to the eye.

Note: Some people also twist (kirb) the hook point.
