Wrap up the post to make a firm foundation for the parachute style
hackle that will be wound there eventually. Notice the the left hand
thumb and fingers are applying upward tension on the post as the
thread is wound. Although I don't bother as I use lots of thread
tension, it might be a good idea
to add a drop of head cement to the thread at this point.
