A. | To my knowledge, there are two manufacturers of Plastic Canvas Yarn: J.&P. Coats® is one, Needloft® is the other. Both are available in most craft shops at very reasonable prices. One of my friends from Nebraska recently showed me Latch Hook Rug Yarn from MCG Textiles® that seems exactly like the Coats material and has the advantage of being cut to short lengths. (R1) |
B. | The left sample above is the Coats product. It is made of relatively short fibers, giving it a bit of fuzziness. |
C. | The right sample is made by Needloft and is made of long fibers and is therfore smoother in appearance. |
D. | If a taper is part of the goal, it is easier to work with the Coats material as you can strip out the shorter fibers with your thumbnail to create the taper. |
Note: | It seems that the fad of plastic canvas has died and most craft shops no longer carry the material. As noted in (R1) above, MCG Textiles® is a possible source, A brief web search also turned up: yarns-and.com, ourtownusa.net; never bought from or have any financial interest in any of them.(R2) |
