Wider Based Stereo Landscapes

I'm learning, that to take stereo landscapes, it's often necesary to separate the camera positions by more than just the distance
tetween one's eyes. The general term for this, at least as I find on the web, is "wide based" stereo. My first thought was to make a simple
wooden bar with a slide to mount the camera, that would mount on my cheap tripod.

It worked on a few tests here at home but it was a disaster on my vacation. Wind, a different camera's weight and uneven ground proved how wrong my simplistic approach was.

I did manage a couple of decent shots. Here's are some set up for parallel viewing. I suppose these should be called medium based stereos as the seperation for most was three feet.

They seem to work best with a screen resolution of around 1280 x 1024.
